(1-8 of 8)Top-Line Product
- Ease of use: While there is a steep learning curve for database admins, the system is relatively easy for a user who simply wants to look up information on a constituent. The interface is clean and intuitive and the system allows a number of ways to search (partial names, street address, phone, etc).
- Reporting: If you put it in to RE, there is a way to get it out. And 95% of the time there is already a canned report created that will give you what you need. If not, you can create your own report in Crystal Reports or use a query and Excel to further manipulate that data.
- Support: Don't know how to do something? You've got user manuals, an online knowledge base , an entire Blackbaud Community site, and BB Support to help you out. The annual bbcon is also invaluable for picking up tips and pointers from experts and peers.
- Learning Curve: This isn't a database you can become an expert on overnight. If your organization is interested in adopting RE, I definitely recommend training (formal or informal). It will be helpful for your organization to have someone dedicated to RE. I know there are organizations that purchase it and expect to either have everyone be an expert or for one person with an already full plate to take on the DBA functions.
- Cost: It's not cheap by any means. I know the price can throw a lot of people but I truly believe that in this case you get what you pay for.
- The upsell: I understand Blackbaud is a company but I feel like there is a lot of pressure put on people to upgrade/purchase additional BB products.
- Data management including capturing data, robust queries, exports and reporting.
- Integration with many other apps, programs and lots of specialized companies.
- Awesome customer service.
- Great knowledgebase, community forums, user groups and learning opportunities.
- Utilizes microsoft citrix receiver to enter the software which at times is cumbersome.
- The Raiser's Edge has a place for just about any piece of information, and if there isn't a field pre-designed for the purpose, many fields can be repurposed. The software isn't about data though - as much as it's about tracking the lifespan of a donor and how your organization interacts with the constituent - it allows you to track information about your constituents to ensure you're correctly segmenting, soliciting, and stewarding.
- It has an amazing ability to track portfolios of donors for your Major Gift Officers through the Prospect module. There are built-in ways to project a pipeline of donations, a timeline of activities, and even management reports for tracking purposes.
- The software has pretty amazing built-in reporting. 9 out of 10 times you'll be able to find a report available for your needs. Everything from simple donor lists to more robust financial reconciliation sheets.
- If you put good information in...good information will come out - but that can be an issue with The Raiser's Edge - the learning curve can be steep for users. Although the software is pretty user friendly, for the occasional users, it can be difficult to remember where fields are located and how to build exports. A good database administrator can ease these potential problems for most organizations.
- The cost. There are certainly other software solutions out there that can do a small amount of donor tracking (and for far less money.) You get what you pay for with Blackbaud products. You're investing a potentially large amount of money for an annual contract so that your organization is better equipped to raise the funds needed to accomplish your mission.
- Ease of use - it's very easy to navigate in a constituent record.
- Excellent security capabilities - can tier what users can and cannot do and see.
- Its integration with other Blackbaud products (Luminate Online).
- Amazing, incredibly knowledgeable support team - Love the chat function. Additionally, support goes WAY beyond just technical support. Blackbaud offers so many tools to assist in the success of their clients including blogs, webinars and podcasts available online and free of charge.
- I think that the query tool can be improved.
- The RODBA functionality could use a bit more documentation.
I love the Raiser's Edge!
- The Raisers Edge (RE) gives many different ways to view an individual's interactions with our organization.
- RE is flexible in how you can record data to best meet your organization's needs.
- RE provides many resources for learning more about the product, how to use it and best practices in the database, as well as in fundraising in general.
- For those that aren't involved with data input, there is a difficult learning curve for how data can be pulled out to be usable for them.
- RE is expensive!!! Many features are only available when you pay more, and being a smaller organization, that isn't something we have the resources to spend on those modules.
- Support isn't always the most responsive. I have had an email into my rep with some questions for a couple of weeks with no response.
Well Worth the Cost!
- It is easy to move around in and find information quickly.
- Information can easily be pulled out of the database by using queries.
- It makes it easy to create mail templates for bulk mailings which are saved and can be used again in the future. This saves time.
- It offers many canned reports that provide valuable information, but is flexible enough to allow custom reports to be created using Crystal Reports.
- The events module makes it easy to track all event information including participants, expenses, and income. It has a very easy to use interface.
- Lately, hold times for customer phone support have been long when needed.
- Fund records lack notes and media tabs that would be helpful to track key information related to the fund.
- There is no auditing feature in Raiser's Edge to easily see things like the last time someone logged in, who made changes to records, etc. This would be very helpful to have plus a way to rollback a change someone may have made.
- There is no way to create a standard format where specific entry requirements can be done automatically for consistency (i.e. addresses change Dr to Drive, specific salutations are automatically included, spell check, etc.)
- There is not a way to add/track custom goals for development officers that aren't necessarily tied to gifts or dollar amounts (i.e. number of proposals, number of meetings, unit $ goals that can be tracked through gifts received, etc.).
Raise the bar with The Raiser's Edge...
- As a relational database, the Raiser's Edge is able to store a wealth of data, as well as linking the data when appropriate.
- By providing centrally-located data storage for supporter information, the Raiser's Edge is essential in executing a successful fundraising program.
- By utilizing queries and exports, and maintaining table consistency, it's possible to monitor the health of the database, and take necessary steps to maintain and strengthen the data integrity.
- Customer Service is generally very knowledgeable and willing to work with you to find problem resolutions.
- Importing data into the Raiser's Edge can be daunting. With experience, it does get easier, and I understand that Blackbaud's partner, Import-O-Matic, can be quite useful in overcoming some of the challenges with the import process.
- While a great many of the field names and configuration can be customized by the end user, there is still work to be done to add or increase this functionality in other areas.
- Some functionality in the Raiser's Edge has not kept up with the world at large. For example, the configuration of address/email/phone linking needs to be revisited and updated.
Raiser's Edge: The Cadillac of Donor Software
- The reporting in Raiser's Edge is fantastic. There are many "canned" reports which are what most organizations will need, for example weekly giving reports, annual giving reports, solicitor comparison reports etc. It also allows for highly customized reports and for you to save reports that you need to rerun with different dates.
- Ease of use. Raiser's Edge, with minimal training is very easy to use. I found it, as did other employees, to be very intuitive. Yes, there are ways it can get complicated but the overall ease of use is universal.
- The user support of raiser's edge is excellent. I haven't been put on hold for longer than a few minutes. They also have excellent chat support which is great if you just have a quick question or need a password reset. Never had such great customer support.
- Learning how to properly use the reports, exports and queries can be difficult. If you don't go through a formal training, it can be next to impossible to just "catch on". It can be difficult to decide which to use and when.
- If Raiser's Edge integrated with more credit card processors, that would make work and gift processing much more efficient. many organizations cannot change their credit card processor just because raiser's edge only integrates with a select few.
- I felt pressured from Raiser's Edge to buy more add-ons, to sign up for additional resources, and pressured to buy their wealth screener. I did not appreciate the tough sell on these, and them pushing my organization to buy these items. We were already spending plenty of money on the product upgrade.
